How has your experience working with Sullivan MCG been since partnering several months ago?
“Justin and his team have been very valuable to our practice for many reasons. We’re a 10 plus provider practice with specialties ranging from optometry, retina, glaucoma, and cataract, so we’re a very complex group of individuals. We needed a consulting firm that could come and evaluate our processes, our policies, and give us some advice on how we may be able to improve what we were doing to help us achieve the goals that we’re interested in. Our goals include being able to provide high quality care for the patients and being able to ensure that we properly code and bill for the patients.
A large practice like GCEI requires lots of moving parts, everything from HR, to credentialing, to just simple renegotiating contracts that have just been sitting there for decades sometimes. Having a group that’s focused and experienced with all those aspects of the practice was very attractive. “I think the key has been how Sullivan MCG has examined our practice, and implemented their knowledge on how to work with a practice like Gulf Coast from their previous experiences. In doing this, they have brought our practice to the next level. We are interested in acquisition and expansion, but without an experienced group, it’s tough to be able to do that smoothly, so they came in at just the right time. We had just moved into Laredo, and they helped make that transition painless and very smooth.”
What kind of growth and improvements have you seen since starting with the Sullivan Management & Consulting Group?
“Not only have we improved our processes internally, Justin has actually had a lot of experience in different aspects of ophthalmology. Aside from just advising you on how to improve your internal processes, he also looks at different services that you’re providing or not providing that would work well with the providers and the patient population. He’s had a dramatic impact on improving our ability to service patients that are already in the practice, providing very needed treatments such as improving our dry eye protocols. Just the dry eye changes have had a very dramatic impact on our ability to better care for the patients, which has translated into increased revenues.”
