Position Overview
A premier ophthalmology practice in Manhattan is seeking a poised, articulate, and service-driven Refractive Surgical Counselor to join its team. This is not a transactional role — it is a high-touch, concierge-level position at the intersection of clinical expertise, patient advocacy, and luxury service. The right candidate will serve as the trusted guide for patients exploring advanced vision correction options, combining deep product knowledge with emotional intelligence and a polished presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one consultations daily, providing tailored education on:
- LASIK and PRK
- ICL (Implantable Collamer Lenses)
- Premium Cataract Surgery (e.g., multifocal, toric lenses, light adjustable)
- Corneal Cross-Linking
- Advanced Dry Eye Therapies (e.g., IPL, LipiFlow)
- Serve as the patient's primary point of contact from consultation through post-operative recovery, creating a seamless and reassuring experience throughout.
- Coordinate and schedule all surgical procedures, managing every detail with professionalism and precision.
- Actively manage co-management relationships:
- Communicate with referring optometrists and ophthalmologists.
- Provide timely clinical updates and facilitate smooth transitions for pre- and post-operative care.
- Ensure referring providers are always informed, aligned, and supported.
- Build trust and rapport with prospective patients by understanding their goals, addressing concerns, and conveying confidence in the practice's expertise.
- Maintain accurate patient tracking in EMR and CRM platforms, including outcomes, conversion metrics, and follow-up activity.
- Collaborate closely with the medical and administrative teams to ensure a consistent luxury service standard is upheld across all patient interactions.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a boutique medical, ophthalmic, or aesthetic environment.
- Naturally polished and professional demeanor with exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to educate, influence, and convert patients considering elective procedures.
- Surgical scheduling and EMR/CRM fluency.
- Comfortable juggling multiple consultations daily without sacrificing warmth or attention to detail.
- Experience managing relationships with referring providers and understanding the nuances of co-managed care.
